Waterfowl

Waterfowl reflect the conditions of the land and the water across the North American continent.

As they migrate from north to south and back again, they, depending on species, rely on a wide range of environments. They overwinter in salt marshes and in hardwood river bottoms. They stopover in the grain fields and playa lakes of the Plains States. And nest in the vast wet expanses of northern marshes. Of course, some species take up residence in a single location.

Like other species, waterfowl benefit from management that takes into account the big picture instead of a single focus. Unlike most other species, their well-being involves a cooperative vision across a continent.
